So NWIRP finally has a new executive director. His name is Magdaleno Rose-Avila. He worked for many years with Amnesty International, seeking the abolition of the death penalty. He also founded Homies Unidos, an organization that works to help gang members escape the cycle of violence and poverty, and the Cesar Chavez Foundation. Homies Unidos was in the news at one point, filing suit against the LAPD's Rampart Division, which was involved in a massive scandal for police misconduct. I even found Magdaleno's homepage.
Of the three candidates for the position, he was the one that won the most favor, although he doesn't have specific experience in the immigration law field. I'm pleased that of the three of them, he was chosen. Hopefully he will be a good boss, inshallah.
