I've completed my volunteer internship at the public defender's office (it was only 24 hours). I can't say it was the most exciting job in the world, but it's a place to start. I was officially a volunteer with Justice Passage. The head of Justice Passage told me that they have an opening for a paralegal intern this summer. It sounds like the project would be the Court Watch that I originally heard about. I've been trying to meet with her to talk about this, but she was unable to make it this week.
The summer internship will be 90-150 hours and is intended to provide real experience and learning opportunities for paralegals while the volunteer internship was mostly to expose us to legal community service work.
I am pursuing a couple of other possibilities for the internship including Hate Free Zone, a local immigrant advocacy organization, and the brand-new CAIR Seattle. I've sent out letters of inquiry to see if they have internship opportunities.
